WOW query

I've found a flight which has a 16 hour wait in Reykjavík.
The website says 'connect in airport'

Does this mean I have to stay in the airport?
With 16 hours I'd like to explore

(And yes, I do know WOW are a bit shit, but I have time and not much money. And a direct flight home with a much better airline Wink)

I would look for another flight in the event you have not booked this; 16 hours is a long wait even if you can leave the airport (which is likely). Save your money for a direct flight instead.

I would not use WOW because cheap is not always cheerful either.

The airport is a fair way from Reykjavik but it is a small city so you could see it in a couple
Of hours. You could also go to the Blue Lagoon

Attila* why do you think a long stopover is a bad option if I have the time? I thought it would be an opportunity to see another city for a bit? I don't get many chances to travel...Interested in your views as you probably get out more than me!

Iceland as a country is hideously expensive. Also such a long stopover (and 16 hours as well is a long stopover) eats into your overall time at the other destination.

Here is a useful guide to Iceland in any event:-

Airport is tiny. You'll need to pay for a shuttle into Reykjavik (about an hour). You can get off the bus at Blue Lagoon and get back on again, or go on the way back to airport if you want (allow a couple of hours).
In Reykjavik you will likely have time to wander the city, visit the cathedral, the Viking settlement museum, possibly even a 4-hour whale watching trip. If it were me I'd eschew the whale watching and find the Christmas shops, but if you our outward bound you probably won't want to carry lovely Christmas things with you on your way to holiday!

Just to report back! I went for the 16-hour stopover in Iceland (Keflavik). Had to hang around in the airport overnight, not so good - but perfectly safe and slept a bit.
Bought ticket to Blue Lagoon online in advance, entry from 7am. Included a bus transfer to B.Lagoon in my day ticket. Bus journey was 15 minutes from airport to Lagoon. Spent a very happy few hours at the hot pools, was lovely!

WOW long-haul to the US wasn't as bad as I'd thought. No in-flight movies, and luggage allowance meagre. Plane was very clean, staff helpful, centre seats a bit squished but bearable for the price. No delays, boarding efficient.
