Last week of December?

Can anyone recommend where to holiday in the last week of December (thinking of going on 27th or 28th December for one week). We've never been away at this time of year before

We're looking for somewhere shorthaul that is reasonably warm (not necessarily hot, just warmer than UK). We have kids 8 and 6, so I'd like there to be things for the kids to do - swimming and other activities (either in resort or nearby). I'd also like there to be things of cultural interest nearby, such as an old town or similar. I'm leaning towards a holiday resort rather than city break, but am easily swayed!

Any ideas would be much appreciated as am already going crazy from too much time googling/browsing (and I've only been looking for a couple of days)!

All inclusive? Self catering?

Open to either self catering or all inclusive (or anything in between). We usually go self catering so can enjoy local cuisine. Perhaps in off season in December, all inclusive would be a more sensible bet?

We are off down to Cadiz area on the 29th Dec for a week ...flying into Gibraltar (because it was cheaper) mix and matching accommodation -one AI type hotel for 4 nights and then city hotel for 3 nights - hoping to go into Seville by train etc ...weather looks to be nice at that time of year.

I'm looking for similar inspiration! People keep telling me the Canary islands is the best bet.

Agadir in Morocco I shall also worth considering.

If you want holiday resort then would probably have to be Canaries or Africa as it's out of season for anywhere in mainland Europe. If you want a great option for a city break then Seville was reasonably warm when I went in mid January last year, has a large Old Town, lots of lovely places to eat and was very inexpensive for self-catering accommodation at that time of year. It did get quite cool/cold at night though - had to make use of the heating in the apartment I was in. Easy to get to Cadiz, Cordoba and Granada from there too. Or Malaga by train if that's easier for flights.

What sort of budget? How far are you willing to fly?
