Things to do in Bangkok

I'm off to Bangkok in 2 weeks and just researching what to do in a Bangkok

I'm going with my DH, DS -17, DD - 16 and DS - 6.

We've got 2 full days in Bangkok before we go off to Khao Lak and on one of the days we are going to the Grand Palace and the sleeping Buddha so just trying to figure out what to do on the other day

We've been a few times before and have done the floating market, Jim Thompson house and markets so want to do something else?

Also would you take children to Khao San Road ? Have never been there before but reading on trip adviser it seems a bit of mix bag as to whether to go there?

Thanks Smile

I really like Banglamphu. You can travel up on the river ferry and have a good day exploring. I thought it was much more laid back than other parts of the city, and we had some great food in the cafes.

Day trip to kanchanaburi - bridge over the river Kwai.
Lampini park(sp?) is nice for a stroll and watch the monitor lizards roaming around.

Khao san Road will be fine in the day or early evening, can get a little rowdy at night.
It's just a street full of stalls, bars and tat.

I second getting the river boat. It has tourist tickets that show lots of sights on the same line. You can hop on and hop off at the Grand Palace (you can walk from there to Wat Po), Wat Arun, Chinatown, Khao San etc etc. The have a map with the tourist ticket.

To get there get the skytrain (BTS) to Saphan Taksin. The boats are just outside the station.

Asiatique is a nice area by the river for the evening. Lots of little stalls and loads of nice restaurants. It has a big wheel etc. You can get there by taxi or by free boat from the boat stop mention above.

Your 6 year old would love Kidzania. It's in Siam Paragon. The older kids could go to Bounce if they like trampolines or they could explore the fancy shops in paragon or go to the cheap shops in MBK mall opposite.

If you're there at the weekend, Chatuchak market is very popular.

In Khao Lak, I recommend going to Klong Koo restaurant. It's a cool we place where they put the tables in the river. So you eat with your feet in the water. The food is surprisingly very good too. I also like to eat in a place called Phu Kao Lak.

Hi, Chatuchak market is incredible and Asiatique was really nice too. We also went to watch some Muay Thai being filmed for tv close to Chatuchak which might be good if your children are in to martial arts.

Just read that the Thai authorities have removed all street stalls from the KSR during the day, making it a pretty pointless place to go now - slow hand clap to someone.
