We have been to Port d Andratx in July before but wondering if anyone has been in October before? I understand the weather can be hit and miss ( we’ve done the Balearics before at that time of year) but it’s more does everything close down? Will there still be shops/ chemist etc available? Many thanks.

I went to palma for a short break years ago in october and i think there was a little rain here and there but mostly it was fairly nice weather . Not hot but was fine to wear dresses /vests and quite a few things were still open.

Orchidflower1 · 29/07/2018 08:29

Thank you branleuse. We want there to still be restaurants etc open.

It will be very quiet but some restaurants and amenities will be open. It is a working town after all, not just a tourist destination.

Orchidflower1 · 29/07/2018 08:57

Thank you AppleScoop that’s a good point.

I went to Port De Pollenca (probably spelled that wrong) last October and it was perfect - not busy but everything was open and we had good weather. Going again this year.

Orchidflower1 · 29/07/2018 09:13

Thanks EvilTwins out of interest how long is the transfer time to port de pollenca? We generally get a taxi rather than a coach as I can’t stand waiting for other people’s luggage- bad enough waiting for your own!

EvilTwins · 29/07/2018 09:49

It was about 45 mins in a taxi I think.

Orchidflower1 · 29/07/2018 09:55

Thanks EvilTwins

I had a week in Majorca in October once and it rained every day. It might not, but if you want a sun and beach type holiday you might be disappointed and should go further south.

Branleuse · 29/07/2018 12:45

if you want a better chance of sun in october, id consider one of the Canary islands, southern Spain/malaga, morroco, Malta, Cyprus

Orchidflower1 · 29/07/2018 14:20

Thanks for the tips- we’re happy with the temperature/ sun level to expect in Majorca/ menorca at that time of year- it was more whether things would be open.

In Pollenca, the shops and restaurants etc tend to close down at the end of October.

The sea is still warm enough to swim in and it’s quieter in the resort but most things are still open.

lalafafa · 31/07/2018 15:05

i wouldn't risk it, mallorca has a very short season.
Wasn't great weather in early june either.

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/08/2018 08:44

We went to Mallorca last October, everything was open, the sea was lovely and warm and it was hot and sunny all week apart from about an hour of heavy rain early one evening. We just sat on the covered balcony and watched the street turn into a river, and then when it stopped went out for the usual walk/drinks/dinner.

Orchidflower1 · 02/08/2018 21:10

Thanks all. Wondering about somewhere closer to Palma so that we can have a day trip there. Although wondering if Easter is a better time to go? Dh was wanting some sun but given the weather here at the moment he’s already got what he wanted!

cazzyg · 02/08/2018 22:05

Easter can be more mixed and the sea is colder as it hasn’t warmed up yet.

We're going to Majorca in October. Palma nova.

We went in October in 2015 for a week and we had 2 days rain. The rest was lovely.

Not too bothered about hot sun as we have 2 young children.

Bit if you want red hot sun sun sun then October in Majorca isn't for you lol.

lonelyatchristmas · 02/08/2018 22:21

We were in torremolinos the last week of Oct last year and it was well into the 20s.. I know it's a different country but was lovely that time of year

HelenUrth · 02/08/2018 22:26

If it's not a touristy spot might be ok, we went one October & weather was fine but bars & restaurants had a real end of season feel about them, you could tell the staff just wanted to close for the winter and were counting the days.
