Can I put an electric pump in hand baggage to fly?

Anyone ever flown with a portable electric pump? The sort with a car adapter to inflate beach toys and the like.

Is there a reason you can't just put it in your hold luggage?

mavydoes · 28/07/2018 14:52

You can do but depends on size etc.

If it's just a mini plug and go one then stash it into a suitcase with all the buttons taped over and ensure there is no charge in it.

If it's one the size for a car then not worth it and just blow up toys when there.

Just make sure you pack the adaptors for toys etc

Thanks for replies. I'm not taking hold luggage. DH and kids out there already; long story about massive inflatable too big to get in car to take to and from beach (house in hills, beach 15 min drive). It's a pain . . .

Phone the airline and ask them. It'll probably depend where you're flying to.

I think it might depend on the size:

Thanks all but think won't work, seems car adapter doesn't have lead so has to work in car and inflatable too big to inflate in car. Sigh. One disappointed ten year old, needless to say, we didn't buy the darn thing. It was a gift.

Any garages with an air pump near the beach?

dementedpixie · 29/07/2018 11:09

Could you take a foot pump instead?

dementedpixie · 29/07/2018 11:11

battery powered pump

dementedpixie you are an angel (hope that's not an insult to pixie-folk). Thank you.

Now, what time does Argos close . . .
