HomeAway host doesn't reply to messages

Basically should I be worried that we've booked an apartment through HomeAway, paid the owner directly (i checked with HomeAway and they said this was fine if that's how he wanted to be paid) and we're due to arrive on 7th Aug and he's not responding to any of our emails?

I'm putting it down to a possible cultural difference, ie a more relaxed Mediterranean view of "it's all fine, you've said you're coming on such and such date, we don't need to keep emailing to confirm the details" but I keep fretting that we might not have anywhere to stay when we turn up!

Has anyone else had these issues and what did you do / was the outcome? Should I just stop worrying and look forward to the trip?

I had this, I ended up ringing the owner's number on the property page. He was very apologetic and ended up leaving a nice bottle of wine for us.
