Barcelona in December

We really want to go away on Boxing Day to escape all of the extended family arguments get togethers! Have been thinking about Barcelona as it seems to have a few things for the kids as well (will be 10 & 4 but almost 5) and we want to be back by New Years Eve. We have checked the weather and it seems ok, we obviously know it's not going to be warm!

Has anyone been there in December? Are things open as usual?

Would you recommend it with children?

Any nice hotel recommendations? We have realised that a chance of an indoor pool is pretty slim!

Any general recommendations or if it's a no then where else could we try?

Thanks for any help!

Barcelona is fantastic with kids, in fact I'd say it was one of the best European cities for kids.
I really don't think you'll have a problem with things being open. Casa Batllo and La Sagrada for example, are open 365 days a year! Even the aquarium appears to be open every day! Mount Tibidabo Amusement Park is closed on 25th and 26th December but should be open when you're there.
I've never stayed in a hotel with an indoor pool in Barcelona, but have come across a few when searching.
