Acton Town to London Victoria coach station at night

DS, aged 17, is desperate to go to the Citadel Festival at Gunnersbury Park, as a band he particularly likes is playing there. If DS goes, it will be with a friend of the same age. We live a long way from London, so trip would involve taking the tube from Acton Town to Victoria around 10.30 at night, then catching a long distance coach back home. I am feeling uneasy about the whole thing, probably prompted by recent media reports about how high the crime rate now is in London. Can any Londoners put my mind at rest and tell me that any 17-year-old exercising basic common sense will be fine doing this? Or if you would be concerned tell me why? As DS points out, in a few months' time he will be 18 and legally able to travel all over the world without my permission if wants to. I can see his point, but would like some perspective!

I would book them a hotel near the festival.

He'd be absolutely fine!! Loads of people going back the same way, we are not awash with gunpoint crime between tube stations, (or most other day to day situations) it's the people who don't live in London who seem to be hysterical about it.

If they are sensible it will be fine.

Victoria is an exceptionally busy station so loads of people about.

Tube at 10.30pm will still be quite busy and there are always lots of people going to/from Victoria as it’s such a big interchange and he’s not travelling particularly late. Then the coach will be prebooked tickets only I presume. He’ll be absolutely fine! I’ve done a few late night interchanges at Victoria by myself and I’ve never felt unsafe or anything like that. I also have friends in Acton and wouldn’t have any concerns about walking to the tube at 10.30pm.

Thank you all for your posts. You've convinced me I should let him go!

If you're really worried, an uber might be a good compromise.

He will be fine! It's a straight forward journey and the tube runs all night at weekends on those lines now so 10.30 isn't even regarded as late by most Londoners!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/07/2018 15:28

He'll be fine. London isn't as bad as the press like to make out.

My 17 year old is off to Spain tomorrow on a girls holiday, I'm rather worried about that! Just been chatting to her about staying hydrated, Sun cream, don't overdo the booze, stay away from drugs, safe sex, would prefer no sex but prob unrealistic 😂no swimming pissed .... I'm seeing danger everywhere. But they have to do these things!
