Any recommendations for a decent hotel that's a good base for exploring? £100 ish a night.

It's quite small so wherever you book you're not super far away. I'm there from 18 July staying at the Ai Mori Oriente. I'll try and feedback if that helps when I get back.
Book soon though, hotels are booking up. We were going to stay on the Carlton on the Grand Canal but the canal view rooms had sold out and I was insistent on a canal view :-)

I stayed here www.alpontemocenigo.com/. It was very nice - central location but quiet. Lovely breakfast served in a little courtyard. We had the cheapest room which was around 100 Euros and it was quite small and had a window looking out at a brick wall, but it was still nicely furnished.
