holiday suggestions for 5 yr olds abroad?

We haven't been abroad since having children and my holiday knowledge is based on couples not a family with twin 5 year old girls. We want to go abroad next year and are looking to fly, not to hire a car at the other hand and have warm but not too hot weather. I would love france but this seems to involve hire cars unless anyone can advise differently. Otherwise were looking so far at the canaries in March or April, or Balaerics in early June. Has anyone any advice/suggestions?

Do you want a children's club for the girls? I recommend Thomson Super Families, Aparthotel Bonaire on Majorca.
Or Villa Pia in Tuscany if you dont fancy the package holiday scene.

I think you can't beat majorca. The flight time is so short and the resorts are all near the airport. We have stayed in ALcudia and are going back in two weeks time. The weather is lovely either in May or September and its very child friendly. HTH>

would agree majorca - cheapish, cheerful, easy to get round without a car - buses are great!

I have taken my 2 children abroad regularly since they were 3 and 4, they are now 9 and 10. Of all the places we have been I would say Alcudia in Majorca was the best for younger children. All the restaurants are very child friendly. Also Cala Galdana in Menorca is lovely. I took my 2 there just before ds1 started school. It is quieter than the other Balearics but there is still plenty to do.

We've just come back from Slovenia and it was FANTASTIC!!!!!

Easyjet go there, so cheapo flights. The place is really child friendly, about half of those outdoor cafes/bars had childrens toys put out to entertain the small ones while Mums and Dads had a nice cool beer. The place is fairly small, so it's easy to get everywhere by bus. Try Lake Bled with it's swimming, trips to gorges and mountains, amazing caves (World Heritage Sites). The Liptaur horses (sp?) originate from Slovenia and you can go and see them being trained, sure to please small girls. On top of that the weather was warm and being next door to Italy, lots of the food involved pizza and pasta which will satisfy even the most picky small person.
