Hi, I'm travelling to Thailand in January and thinking of adding a five day trip to Hanoi, especially since I don't need a visa if staying less than 15 days. I haven't been for at least ten years has it changed a lot? Hotel prices still seem pretty reasonable.

I first went in 2009 and was there last month -IMO it's not changed a lot, still great value with loads of fabulous restaurants and lots to discover in the back streets of the old quarter.

Thank you I loved Hanoi happy to hear it hasn't changed. Can't wait to go back. I've just ordered a walking guide book around Hanoi I love the old quarter.

I’ve only been the once 3 years ago, but loved it. Much less shiny and modern than HCMC, and so much good food! The only really touristy place that we found was Bia Hoi corner, full of backpackers in the evenings but the atmosphere was always good.

WhatYou thanks I agree Hanoi is more traditional and wandering around the 39 streets is fascinating. I liked HCMC but nothing beats Hanoi. It will be nice to enjoy the cool, foggy weather after three weeks in Thailand.
