New Zealand - October /November

Going out to New Zealand for a wedding first weekend November.
We are driving over 3 weeks, we also have a lot of tours and activities booked

Trans alpine to greymouth

Onaero for Wedding

What sort of clothing are we going to need, will any of it be shorts weather?, assume it may be rainy so will need rainwear, but is it short showers or all day rain. Will it be really cold in Franz jozef

It's usually shorts weather for the Upper North Island by that time. You will definitely need something a little warmer for the South, jeans and a jumper should do it, especially if you're under bush cover doing the trails.

The last two summers have been terrible - rain/thunderstorms, high humidity up in Auckland. Hopefully this year will be better!

We went to NZ in December. Franz Joseph was hot but then peed it down - you'll need fly repellent the blood sucking flies are evil!

I got sunburnt in December but also one day had to wear pretty much all my clothes as was soo COLD! I was told for NZ you need a bit of everything. Waterproofs, woolly pully, gloves, shorts, sun hat etc!!

sunscreen, Insect spray for west coast and then cloths for all weathers. It should be warm but if you get a south wind it can get cold. In October the big planes leave Christchurch for Antarctica so keep your eye open

Pack like you are going to the British seaside in spring/autumn
Jeans
Ankle boots
Warm socks
Lightweight down vest
Long sleeve tops
Light weight wool jumper
Raincoat - packamac
Warm hat
Trainers

Wedding likely more casual than the UK so flats and jersery packable dress acceptable.
Don't rely on buying anything clothes wise there. Very expensive and a bit shite aside some OK but pricey merino stuff.

B&g have requested suits for the men, which is a bit of a pain, and bright colours have a fairly crushable bright red phase 8 dress, that im taking.

not jeans, quick dry trousers.not jumpers, fleeces. four seasons in one day is not just a song, so no silly fashion gear.

thats a hell of a lot for three weeks. queenstown to milford is 10 hour return drive so either fly or start from Te Anau.

We are doing a coach trip and overnight cruise to milford. The coach is picking us up at our hotel.

ok, that 's much safer. enjoy and fingers crossed for the weather on the day. and for franz as glacier access is now only by plane. if you do get grounded drive to Fox (only 30 mins) as the valleys are both worth seeing. lots of walk info on doc.govt.nz

you could skip Nelson as there isnt much there.
