Have chance to book last minute holiday in August. Unfortunately, will be recovering from a Hysterectomy so was wondering if a cruise would be suitable. I'm thinking that my dh and 4 children (12 - 17) would be kept busy and I could relax and recuperate.
I'm wondering about cruise options...that won't be too overwhelming but interesting for the children. Any experiences are greatly appreciated as my head is bursting with all the options!!

That's exactly why I like be cruises - I get a rest from the "mum work".

Kids are hungry? They go and get something to eat. Bored? They go for a swim/kids club/ activity. Same with DH Grin

I get to relax, do whatever I want to do, eat something that's been cooked for me, drink a drink that's been brought to me, and at the end of the day slip into a bed that's been made and turned down for me.

Bliss!

Recommend marella explorer and discovery ships. Fab for kids fab for you.

They are fantastic!

However, to throw a spanner in the works they are limited to how many children in each age group they can take so you may struggle to find many options with availability for you all

Cruise companies are very different though - my teenagers are arty and definitely not sporty, so we do Disney. Others would hate that and would prefer the rock climbing/ice skating etc on Royal Caribbean.

Some lines are all inclusive, others you get accommodation, entertainment and food but are constantly pressured to upgrade to better (which you have to pay fir) restaurants etc.

Choose carefully!

Thanks for your replies.
Barbara I have a mixture of sporty and non sporty so need to choose carefully. Don't know if I could put up with Disney 24/7 for 10 days..... the choice is mind boggling and I know I'm leaving it v last minute.

Possibly a bit late now but beware of travel insurance. If you're post-op a cruise can add a significant premium unfortunately!
