Berchtesgaden salt mine (Bavaria) slides

We're visiting Bavaria with DD(5), and planned to visit the Berchtesgaden salt mines. It looks really fun and interesting, and I have to admit the miners' slides to go in are a draw.

But DD broke her arm a week ago Sad.

Are the slides very fast? She will have a cast on, so light knocks are ok, but I'd be concerned if the slides are fast enough that she might risk getting out of control or having a bad landing.

How old is she?

The slides are quite fast, but children below a certain age (can’t remember exactly but our daughter was 3 or 4) go down with a parent, so I think it would be fine, I haven’t heard of anyone falling off.

She's 5. Do you think the slide big enough for a 5 year old to go down with parent?

Good to know that no-one has fallen off!

I know there are 2 slides. Are they about the same size, so we could do the first one with her, and see how we felt for the 2nd?

Thanks for the info!

She could definitely go down with a parent, in fact I think she's actually too young to go down alone. Even adults don't generally go down alone (unless they are solo travellers), when DH & I went we had to go down together.

From memory I think the first slide is maybe a little shorter but you could definitely try the first and then decide on the second. Also - with both slides there is a walking path as an alternative for those who don't fancy the slides.

If you google pictures of the slides ('Rutsche' in German), they mostly show children going down with their parents, so your DD should be fine.

That brings back memories for me. I went there when I was 6. I think I went down the slides with a parents, but as it was 53 years ago my memory is a little hazy. do they still make you wear something over your clothes?
