Southend on Sea

DH and I don’t work Fridays so we normally have a trip out somewhere. We go to the coast often - mainly Brighton, Worthing, Hastings and some towns inland. Getting a bit bored - looking for somewhere to go on Friday. What is Southend like? Worth a visit, or is it run down? All I know is they have a long pier but that’s it.

If worth a visit, where should we head for, a particular part of town?

I like it!
Much prefer Westcliff though (just a bit further along), it's out of the way of the rides and arcades but lovely sandy beach.
Although always and I mean always, go to Rossi's for ice cream!

If it's just the two of you, maybe Leigh on sea? All close proximity, the nearest train goes Leigh - Chalkwell - Westcliff - Southend.

Leigh has old Leigh which is cockle sheds, shops, pubs etc

If you have Dc then Southend for the amusements etc but it links on to the high street which isn't a very nice place

I'm near Southend, it's rough around the edges and then some, especially when compared to somewhere like Brighton. Having said that, it's still probably worth a visit. There's some lovely places along the front - 'the arches', 'sands' & obviously the pier. The highstreet is definitely nothing to shout about but there are a couple of nice quirky places, I'd recommend 'Bacchus'. Traffic and parking will be mental on a Saturday just to pre-warn but with weather like this, should be a lovely time.

Ooh and definitely another vote for Old Leigh! Much nicer
