Jet2 guaranteed hand luggage

Has anyone not paid for this beforehand and had an issue and had to put their baggage in the hold.
I don't really want to pay for my handluggage to be beside me, however i don't really want my medication or glasses or similar to be put in the hold (which is the whole point of handluggage!!)

Can't you just put your glasses and medication in your handbag instead? You can take a 10kg case no larger than 56 x 45 x 25cm, AND a handbag. Jet2 don't have the same rules as Ryanair.

We fly jet2 a lot, have never paid for guaranteed hand luggage (do they even do this?) and have never had it put in the hold, unless we want to - if I have a small wheelie suitcase, I prefer to put it in the hold, rather than lug it round the airport, and they often offer to take it for free if checking in paid for hold luggage as well.

You can have a handbag plus a small suitcase, so you just put your small essentials like glasses, medication etc in your smaller bag, and then it doesn't matter if they take your larger carry on for the hold.

We always fly Jet2 if we can, never been asked to put hand luggage in hold, never had to pay for the privilege of hand luggage either. Jet 2 are very good, I wouldn't worry.

Thanks It is my handbag I am talking about, It is a new thing that they started this year on busy flights, Ryanair do it too. Its not a small suitcase I am trying to get on just a tote bag type thing but just don't really want to pay the charge to guarantee having it with us.

I know Ryanair do this, but I really don't think that Jet2 do, especially with tote bags.

They might offer to put it in the hold (I prefer this because it's less stuff to carry around) or they might require wheelie cases to be put in the hold if there are a lot on the flight, which there often isn't if you're going to a holiday destination because a lot of people on the flight are on jet2holidays packages, which include hold baggage as standard so many people have a hold suitcase and then just a small handbag.

One of the flights we went on to Malta, Mallorca or somewhere similar, the lockers were about a third full, loads of space, should you need it.

If you're really worried, pack your glasses and medication in a very small bag that you can pull out if they take all your other luggage, which they won't, so you can take them on the flight with you. Or you could just put them in your pockets.
