Hello all, we last went on a forrin holiday in 2015, and had a lovely time on south west coast of Ibiza. Lack of cash has meant no holidays for last three summers, and DH has announced he definitely wants to go away next year. So ideas please for destinations that won’t break the bank yet are still pleasant to spend time in and have stuff to do with kids under 8. We’re in NI so can go from very end of June/start July until end August. We do love the quieter parts of Ibiza, and also loved Essourria when we went pre-kids. I also loved Turkey in my younger days, although I’m not sure what the craic is with it these days safety-wise?
Big commercialised resorts are not for us. DH is interested in Croatia.
Would love your suggestions please!

You can check out the travel advice for Turkey here www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/turkey Seems as though most parts are safe for travel. Only thing that might be an issue is the heat, seems it can get to the mid-30s. Haven't been to Croatia yet, but if it helps I've only heard great things!

If you are looking to stay on a budget, a beach holiday might be good. Cheap to entertain the kids and there's always arcades, aquariums, etc. South of France?

Get booked before it's the school holidays in England. I love Ibiza too. I have only been once and to get away from the grotty resort we were in hired a car. Puerto pollensa was lovely and quiet if my memory serves me well.

Mallorca is expensive, I expect Ibiza is too. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is nice and there's lots to do.

Have a look at what jet2holidays offer. You can put your dates, party size and departure airport (they fly from Belfast) into their deals finder and see what comes up for your budget.

Yes Ibiza is expensive in comparison with mainland Spanish resorts, and getting more so every year from what I hear!

We are off to Turkey this year, we've been several times. It is hot this time of the year but the kids just want to play in the pool anyway.

Try Montenegro. It's beautiful, still quite cheap and has a similar feel to Croatia. We stayed in Kotor and the children had a great time.

Flying into Montenegro is expensive (not been, only looked - best option looked like flying into Dubrovnik & then getting a coach which with small kids would be faffy!). It does look great though! My pennysworth would be Nice or Split. Nice has had millions spent on it tarting it up & is great. The old town is beautiful & there is a lot to do & see. The rail network along the Riviera is good & not that expensive - Villefranche which is 10 minutes by train has a very child friendly beach & a nice town. Monaco, Cannes & Antibes are easy to reach on the train. Flights to Nice if booked far enough in advance are cheap, the flights short & AirBNB have lots of apartments there at really reasonable prices. I'd stay in the Old Town but you'll find some with pools a bit further out. We went to Split last year - the flights were more expensive but our apartment was both gorgeous and cheap! Split is beautiful - an old Roman/Venetian city right on the shoreline. There's a number of pretty (but stony) beaches to take picnics too & a good ferry network of you fancy going to Hvar or Brac on a daytrip. Eating out didn't cost the earth either. I'd go happily back to both!
