Greek island recommendations

Can anyone reckoned somewhere to have on the Greek islands with 2 small kids 3 and 7 months in September?

We want somewhere fairly quiet, but within walking distance of a village with some tavernas and restaurants.

Any ideas?

Depends where you're flying from really, you can find that anywhere. I'd look at cheap and best flight times and go from there. We just got back from Corfu, Rosa was lovely with young kids, lots of apartments, good value too

Roda, not rosa

Nicest place I have been in Greece was on the mainland, called Parga. Just exactly as you've asked for, but totally beautiful too.

We went to Kos 6 weeks ago. Me dh and DD(6)
Hired a car for 2 days (€70 inc insurance n car seats for a soft top jeep) and had a really good explore away from the hotel (in Mamari)

Explored some different beaches, kos' only working windmill (more interesting than it sounds and we got free biscuits), went to a forest that had peacocks, went to a couple of mountain villages, went to some thermal springs, then Kos town itself which has plenty of historical sites.

But then there are things like plenty of boat trips and you can go to turkey for the day

We all Really enjoyed it

Another vote for Roda, it's fab for families with young kids! Beach is sandy and shelves gently into the sea so it's shallow for quite a long time.
Lots of lovely tavernas on the beach so kids can play while you eat/drink. There are a couple of kids play areas - one with a soft play near the beach, some at the Drunken Sailor bar and another one at a restaurant (Tropicana) at the crossroads.
It's very family oriented and all the restaurants will do their best to accommodate your needs. Roda Park restaurant puts on an exceptional Greek Night and get the kids up plate smashing etc.

Lindos on Rhodes - amazing place! Little village, pedestrian only. Apartments in the village and villas/hotels on the outskirts (still within walking distance into the village itself). Great beaches and all the restaurants are rooftop ones.

We just had a wonderful holiday in Western Crete with our 3 and 5 year old dc.
The food was cheap and authentic with child friendly options in all restaurants, the sea is shallow, clear and calm and the beaches are beautiful and picturesque.
Fantastic holiday location for young dc
