Meson Castilla, just off ramblas. They do breakfast too! And day one - go for coffee in the top floor of Corte Ingles on the big square at the top of Ramblas for a panoramic view.

If you go to rentalo.com you can put in what you are looking for and people with free apartments email you with offers. The offers do come in thick and fast but I have found some lovely places to stay this way

The transport network is so good that you don't really need to worry about location too much, but I would try to go for somewhere NEAR to, rather than ON the ramblas, if possible.

Meson Castilla is 5 mins from Ramblas - and it is near CandA for a retro moment! (And underground is great, I agree).
