Booking literally a day or two before

Hi

Has anyone booked a holiday a few days before they went?

Is it any cheaper?

Thinking of doing this as we have to go in the school holidays which is pricey anyway

Anyone have any experience with this?

generally school holidays booked this last minute will not be cheaper. my travel agent friend always reminds me " last minute holidays are the ones no one else wants and you have to ask yourselves why that is"

the best bargains are when they first come out with free kids places etc. you might get lucky but similarly you might find that all that is left is over priced tat. sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

No it's great advice. Thank you. We haven't booked yet we we are still debating. Still not sure who is coming As we have older than 18 children.

Thanks for the advice.

I think we will stil end up booking a few days before bit rather because of everyone trying to commit to dates!

Thanks though.
Years ago didn't it used to be a thing where you could get it all cheap AF?

You can still get pretty good bargains for last minute cruises like this clearing house

Have been on this ship, itinerary and booked with this travel agent (several times) and can recommend

We booked less than a week in advance a couple of years ago and it was quite cheap, not bargain basement, but one of the cheapest holidays we have ever had, but that was in early July, so school holidays for some places but not others.

This was a week in Mallorca and we got a nice hotel in our favourite resort there.

My gut feeling would be that you would get something that late, even in school holidays, but it might not be exactly what you want in terms or board/location. Eg you might get somewhere with lots of capacity like Benidorm, but not a small quiet place. And it might not necessarily be cheap, I don't know.

If you're not tied to the school holidays, could you say 'we will try to find something last minute in July' but if we can't find something nice at the right price, we will go in September instead and book for then? Or go last minute in September, because there will be less demand there anyway.

I have booked accommodation like that. We went away in June having only booked the flight and then looked on booking.com/air bnb when we arrived.

However never booked a flight like that. I tried to do that at Easter when the weather was so shit but all the flights were fully booked so I think it's a risk.
