Tintagel with small children

Just wondering if Tintagel is doable with 2 small dc. 2 year old likes running off but would be happy in a backpack, 4 year old is sensible but doesn't like to walk far. Is this doable??

If I remember rightly, there are a lot of steep steps to the castle. A lot.

It’s quite a steep climb down to the castle entrance, and then a climb up to the castle. I vaguely remember you could pay for a lift back up to the town, but there was quite a queue. and the castle grounds themselves were quite precarious, iirc. However, I think we took our kids there when they were quite small.

There are a lot of steps at the castle some bits are very hilly and it feels in places like you are close to the cliff edge. It might be fine for you all but I would be dubious about my small child running off at the castle.
The NT old post office is a safer bet and they used to have a few garden games like quoits.

At 2 and 4, we took our two DS all the way to the top and around. The 2 year old needed a couple of carries from DH, without a backpack, but walked a lot of it and our four year old did the whole thing. The following year, DH sadly died and I decided to take his ashes there with my boys who were then 3.5 and 5.5. They both then walked the whole lot themselves while I carried the container of ashes! To put this in context, now aged 8 and 10, my two got to the top of Snowdon in bad weather in 1 hour 55 minutes at half term. I guess it depends how physical your children are. Mine have always loved any kind of challenge like this and the chance for a good run around. I would say do it!
