Family holiday, 2 young teens. Can't decide between a week of sun or a cold more Christmassy destination. Can't cope with heat much above 28 degrees. Please tell me about destinations you have enjoyed in December. I need inspiration!

Efteling theme park in Holland is magical at any time of year but especially in December. It used to be considered a park for younger children, but recently it has been working hard on attracting older children and adults. It hasn't lost any of its charm though. If possible, I'd combine it with a trip to Amsterdam. It's really family friendly and the famous light show is on all through December. One of the best things to do during the light festival is a canal cruise after dark. Young teens are also the right age to go to Anne Frank's house.

I'd go for sunshine any day.
A week of sun in the middle of dark cold December sets you up for the rest of the British winter.
The Canaries would give you warm sunshine though not too hot, likely below 28C and with a breeze.

I'd go for sunshine too - Dec is too early for skiing and a week is too long to do a Christmas market and sightseeing, etc. Depends a bit what the young teens are into, but my 10-year-old would rather spend time in the pool, at a waterpark/zoo/amusement park than traipse around a cold, dark city in the middle of winter. Canaries would get my vote. Efteling is great, but for a week? Two days is plenty.
