July with DCs in HK/ SE Asia - where to go?

I have to work for a couple of weeks in HK from early July and bringing DH and DCs (5 and 7) along.

I know that HK is v hot and humid in the summer - not much I can do about going at that time though and don't want to leave the family for 2+ weeks.

Given the temperature, can anyone recommend things to do in HK - for DH and the kids during the day, or for all of us evenings (given we will be jetlagged) and weekends? So far I only have Disneyland on the list...

Also while we were over there we want to combine it with a holiday somewhere nearbyish. I have lovely memories of Vietnam/Thailand/Cambodia/Laos from backpacking days but it's a whole different prospect with DCs in tow!
Ideally - cooler climate than HK, under 3 hours flight time, fun and safe for kids.

Does such a place exist?

HK
Star ferry, peak, ocean park, take the bus to Stanley, cable car to Lantau, lots of museums.
Central Vietnam is dry in July, but can get very hot - 40 degrees when I was in Hoi An last week. A lot of SE Asia is wet in July, but Malaysian Borneo is dry as is Indonesia, but not sure how hot they are. Several budget airlines operate out of HK - HK express, air Asia etc and there are plenty of great destinations within 3 hours flying time.

Thanks ShanghaiDiva! Loads to do in HK then.
40 degrees - ouch. We need more like 30 and under, but is that a pipe dream in that area? don't mind too much if it's wet.

I use the selective Asia website to check weather in different areas. Cooler options:
Luang Prabang?
I have been to Malaysian Borneo in July and don't remember it being incredibly hot.

No idea on weather in July but Malaysian borne is lovely. No huge cities, lovely wildlife, can see orangutans, lots of tribal history to see (my 5 year old would love the idea of headhunters but perhaps not everyone's taste) etc. Not sure on beach style resorts but sure there must be somewhere.

I think of the public swimming pools in Hong Kong are outside and some have splash pools with fountains, slides and water jets etc. I can’t think of any names of the top of my head but I’m sure your concierge or someone in your HK office will be able to tell you.
There’s also some waterfalls near Silvermine beach with rock pools kids could splash in.

We travelled round Vietnam in July: Ky Son; Halong Bay; Hanoi; Hue; Hoi An; Mekong Delta; Ho Chi Minh City. Hot and dry around Hoi An; occasional short sharp showers elsewhere. As previous poster mentioned, Selective Asia are very helpful. We actually arranged our trip with them and they are great with suggestions for kids.
