Taking medication into Canada and USA?

Hi

We're traveling from the U.K. into Canada then driving into USA next month.

My DD has reflux and is prescribed Ranitidine.

Can anyone tell me if I'm ok to just put the medicine into my hand luggage and if I need a doctors letter etc.

Thanks Smile

Dunno about the medical side, but remember that you now need visas for both Canada and the USA.

Visa's for Canada and USA are all sorted! Just need some advice on the medicine.

Do you have a copy of the repeat prescription? I took 10 months of medication with me when I lived there for a bit and I had no issues. I took a copy of the prescription should I need it but I wasn’t asked. I would just check that’s it’s legal there.

I've taken ranitidine that I've bought without a prescription with me to the US. I just had it in my hand luggage alongside paracetamol, antihistamines etc.

It will be fine, to be on the safe side keep it in its original packaging and take a copy of the prescription. If it’s a liquid over 100ml just flag to security when you go through. We fly in/out the US with an epipen in the hand luggage fairly regularly, we’ve never declared it on a customs form or been asked to remove it from our bag going through security. We have a couple of older family members with a lot of prescriptions too, they’ve never had issues with their medications when coming to visit.

Have a great trip Grin

It'll be fine. I took a bunch of medications and didn't get asked for any doctors letters. They can tell what's what and they will be able to see it's a prescription drug.

I did the same when my dd had ranitidine. It was fine. It's called Zantac in the states (name brand I think).
