We'll be in Tuscany when the Giostra del Saracino festival will be on. It sounds like a really special event with lots of horseback parades through the medieval centre and a jousting championship in the main square. I'd really like to see this and think the kids would it too but my question is should we just visit town on the day and soak up the atmosphere or should we book tickets for seats so that we can see it all properly? It would cost us between £150-250 for the 4 of us so quite a big layout really. Has anyone any experience of this or any thoughts generally? Any other tips on the Chianti region/central/eastern Tuscany in late Aug/Sept would be great.
