Not travelled from york, but used to go their canoeing there with a van full of teenagers from Carlisle. That wasn't so bad. It's very pretty when you get there and worth the travel.

Depends what way you go I suppose. If I was going then i would go across to the M6, up past Carlisle onto M74 and then, well I get a bit lost after that roadwise. it weould be well signposted and the M6/M74 is a good road (apart from the bits where it is still A74)

Just a note to warn you if you go to Loch Lomond after the month of May you will be bitten alive with midgies! These are the Scottish variety and come in their thousands!!We looked like we had chicken pox after a few hours! Needless to say we cut short our stay and headed up to Oban which incidently is Fab!!
