We are planning a Big Holiday (for us!) to celebrate a Big Anniversary and think we have finally decided on Cuba.

Travel agent says internet there can be “intermittent” even if hotel says they have WiFi. I’m wondering if “intermittent” might be travel agent speak for non-existent?!

It’s slow and not great - think 1990s dial up in some places

It’s wonderful not being online though for two weeks - I just didn’t bother

Was fine for me several years ago... no problems

I went in 2009 but can't remember... I was on an adventure type tour and we were staying out of the way a lot of the time. I'd have thought the it should be ok, particularly in big/resort hotels.

would you all recommend Cuba then? It's somewhere we would love to go, but are a bit wary (don't know why).

It depends what you’re looking for.. I went for a cycling holiday and it was great, great drivers as they can’t get parts makes for much safer roads. Added to that they respect animals on the motoway

They made a program about oap slebs looking to retire there. It showed people all heading to a particular spot each day as there would be an hour of wifi there. Not sure how edited it was for tv though.

Interesting replies. Thanks!

I’m not glued to my phone but I do like a bit of WiFi. Even on holiday. Still undecided!

Had December in Cuba. Fantastic but zero internet unless you used hotels internet dial up cafe! This was one of the big hotels in Playa Pesquero

We went 2 years ago, only way we found together online was buy prepaid 30 minute cards, like an old phone top up card, and only place they worked was our hotel veranda...well the ones our hotel sold, iyswim. Lots of locals came and bought them too then sat in the street to use them ( had to buy at least a drink to be in the veranda if you weren't staying there)

It is a communist country this was quite interesting but obviously shapes how the country, for good and bad

Loved loved loved Cuba. We toured about and stayed in Casa particulars, but unless you bought a card in a big hotel there was no Wifi. We were there in 2017
