New York: where the heck am I staying?!!

I'm off to NY in a few weeks and we're booked into The Roosevelt which is on the corner of Madison Ave & E46th Street, but looking through the Lonely Planet guide I have no idea what area that is. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it!

Also, we're going for my b'day so would like recommendations on a fantastic place to eat, can book from now onwards if needs be!

Really nice midtown location by the sounds of it- I think it should be quite close to Grand Central? Not sure I know a fantastic place to eat but I'm sure others will...

www.tripadvisor.com have numerous reviews of this midtown hotel (along with photos) and many are favourable.

Why not give Gordon Ramsey's New York restaurant a go?.

Bang in the middle of, urr, midtown!

Maybe not for birthday dinner itself but the oyster bar in Grand Central is a must.
