Las vegas tips please

I have been reading all the stuff on tripadvisor forum but there are so many really rude people there! Plus most of the answers are aimed at people who do big gambling and go often so...

Going in August. Will have two teenagers and grandparents with us.
Have got some ideas but wondered what normal people thought of it all and what you liked.

Where will you be staying?. (Although your children can walk with you through the vast casino areas you must not linger and they must remain with you).

What sort of things do you like doing?.

Keeping well hydrated through the day is important; Vegas can get into the high 90s temperature wise even before 10.00am at that time of year with the temp steadily climbing into the 100s by lunchtime. There are no shortage of places to eat and lunch service usually starts at 11.00am.

I like Vegas very much but I would have to say there is no way I would go there in high summer again due primarily to the daytime temps.

I would certainly use the monorail to get around on the Strip.
What sot of things were you thinking of doing an how long do you have there?.

it's part of a longer California trip and august is the only time we can all be off school/work for long enough. I am expecting it to be scorchio!

We are going to explore the strip. Go to Fremont street. Top golf has been mentioned. Roller coaster at NYNY. Maybe a show? The pool.

We were there for a couple of days last August, it’ll be hotter than hell but everywhere indoors has air con. We aren’t into gambling and had 9yr DD with us, so everything we did had to be suitable for her. I’d recommend booking a show, we saw the cirque show Love which uses The Beatles music and approximately tells the story of the band. We thought it was excellent, we also wanted to see Penn and Teller but the dates didn’t work out for us.

Are your teens into shopping? There are malls in several of the hotels, the one in the Venetian was my favourite, there’s also the fashion show mall on the other side of the street to the Venetian.

We also spent a day just exploring the hotels, they’re all so weird and wonderful.

I've been 12ish times (lost count!) so I love it!

I'd seriously avoid downtown/Fremont Street area, it's a dump and feels seriously seedy and unsafe.

I enjoy mooching around the very high end shops at Crystals, Bellagio, Wynn and Palazzo.

If you like magic I recommend Penn and Teller at Rio. Get tickets from Tix4Tonight if you can.

I don't like the pools at the hotels because they play loud music and will be crowded and noisy,,
but I liked the Wet n Wild water park in Henderson.

Have you done an Escape Room as a family? I'd recommend one in Vegas called Escapology - we got tickets on Groupon and we've done a few escape rooms and this one was the best.

I'm sure you already have this on your list but don't miss the Bellagio fountains, I could stand there all night watching them.

I looked at wet and wild but it's closed when we're there. Closed midweek during the American school year apparently.

It will indeed be scorchio then so staying properly hydrated is important.

The rollercoaster at NYNY is worth doing and the America restaurant in that hotel serves nice and reasonably priced meals all day too.
Would also recommend the Hash House a Go Go at the
LINQ but go at lunchtime and only if you are very hungry (because the portions are huge).

I would not bother with Fremont Street either.

Would second seeing Penn and Teller at the Rio if they are performing at that time.

If your teens like shopping I would look at the Fashion Show mall on the Strip and the Forum Shoppes at Caesars Palace.

My boys really aren't big shoppers tbh. I'll enjoy a mooch around the shops though.

We went 3 years ago when the dc were 17 and 15. High lights of our Vegas trip were definitely a trip to the Grand Canyon and seeing Cirque du Soleil’s Ka at the MGM (don’t know if it’s still on but we were blown away).
I struggle with heat and humidity but found the dry desert heat just about bearable, although that first foot step onto The Strip felt like walking into an oven!! Just don’t stay outside too long, drink plenty all the hotels are a/c anyway.
We booked a 2 day bus ticket so we could avoid walking too much, the Bellagio fountains are a must as is the Volcano at the Mirage.
Would love to go back but DH is of the mindset “been there, done that,”
Off to NY in July tho so will get my US fix then!!

New York is in my bucket list! We're going to the grand canyon. ..really looking forward to it. Also going to San Francisco and to Los Angeles. So excited!

Wouldn't be the place I would choose with kids and grandparents assuming the nightclubs and gambling are off limits?!

Helicopter ride over the Grand Canton was amazing. I would allocate a couple of days at least to the Grand Canyon as there are some amazing walks.

Really enjoyed the show 'La Reve' - very impressive.

Oh and the rollercoaster at New York New York was good fun!

I recommend the zip line at Fremont St, we all loved it!

@crunchtime youll have a great time, i have been 3 times and not boared of it yet. Feb, June and July... yes July was the hottest but HONESTLY there is aircon everywhere and when your inside you will want a cardigan or wrap or something because they have the air con up so so high!! ... keep hydrated and youll be absolutley fine.

Old town warning, go - its an experience for sure and a cheaper night then in new town but just dont dress up or take anything valuable and get a taxi straight there and back .... dont go wondering. We were gutted we went after a posh dinner and felt so OTT and out of place and felt people were staring and taxi driver said we should com eback another time and have fun.

The hotels are something to see on there own, you have a HUGE selection of restaurants, ranging from fine dining and posh eats, to family friendly and buffet style.

Cirque show is great but the time difference killed us and we struggled towards the end to fully enjoy it! so maybe book towards the end of your trip.

Grand canyons cool and you get a helicopter which im sure your sons will enjoy!

Theres top golf and shooting ranges - just not sure if you have to be 21 for shooting ranges?

Love Vegas, been 3 times. Last time we went we didn't do any gambling at all!

Cirque du Solei Ka was seriously amazing, defo worth the money.

Lots of great shopping, miracle mile, fashion show mall and north outlets defo worth a visit if shoppings your thing.

Lots of great places to eat, can be very pricey inside the hotels though - and we're talking $8 a beer, $14+ for cocktails. However if you are gambling, then the waitresses will get you free drinks, this includes the slot machines as-well as tables.

The high roller wheel is fun, great views over the strip. We also just like mooching around the hotels, belagio especially.

Grand Canyon was great, but expect it to be extremely hot in August, that's when we went and it was like standing under a hairdryer even in the shade.

Biggest money saving tip is to use Uber rather than black cabs, they charge about a quarter of the price! Although most hotels will only let Uber pick up from a very specific point at hotel, but worth finding out where it is.

We went onto San Fran from Vegas and then down to LA finishing in San Diego! Would do it all again in a heartbeat!

KA is still on at the MGM Grand.

The Hoover Dam is a short drive away and quite a sight to see.

Fountains at the bellagio, gondolas at Venetian, white tiger at MGM, Starbucks at the top of the stratosphere as highest one in world, Fremont st in the evening , Eiffel Tower in Paris x

The shows I really really recommend are the Beatles love by cirque du soleil. You don't even need to really be a Beatles fan- the dancing and gymnastics is amazing.
The cirque du soleil Michael Jackson show is really really good too, not sure if this is still on.
Jersey boys is another great show.
The shoes aren't cheap but I feel they are worth every penny and most of the theatres are built just for the shows.

It's worth going up the Eiffel Tower at the Paris hotel- the views are really good.

Be aware that in most hotel casinos your children will be moved on if they stand still to watch any gambling. They are really quite strict. If you do get chance to have a quick stop at the tables I find it so interesting people watching! Some people are losing serious money! (And winning it too!)

Fremont street is worth a visit but only at night time. It's a bit rough and quiet in the day. I advise you get a taxi there for safety. The night light show is so good and there are some good cheap souvenir shops there.

Sooooo many trips available to the Grand Canyon which of course is so worth a visit if you have time.

I love Vegas. Best place on earth. I first visited when I was 16 and fell in love with the place. I even got married there 3 years ago. My family live in California so we visit them and drive over to Vegas. Have a wonderful trip!

If you're going to the Grand Canyon, please take the time to drive down to the South Rim. It has all the iconic views and walks that you see in books, etc. If you're coming from overseas and may only get one chance to see it, I feel the North Rim is a bit of a let down... Just my opinion.

We've been twice and stayed in the Luxor the second time. There are some amazing shows, fab restaurants, the people watching is incredible. Grand Canyon is the best trip to do by far. Do the open top bus, perfect way to see everything

We've taken dd to Vegas a couple of times. Last time was a couple of years ago (she'd have been 14) and in August. It was sooo hot - easily in 50s. It was 37c at midnight!! Our visit was also just part of a longer California trip.

We used jet lag to our advantage and used the pools at about 6:30am and had breakfast early outside. Then headed in when the temperatures started to rise.

We did go on the NYNY coaster - it feels quite rickety and not altogether safe, lol.

Lots of wandering through hotels, seeing the sights, shops, etc.

Also ate out - dd likes Hard Rock Cafe so we went there in additional to others.

Whilst your can't linger in the casinos tbh it's really easy to not really go hear them that much - lots of other areas to see and go to.

We went to see a show - dd chose Rock of Ages which she loved!

We weren't impressed with Fremont Street.

We went last year and really enjoyed it. We’re not big gamblers but found lots to do sight seeing at each of the hotels. We too stayed at the Luxor, my tip would be to walk through the hotels as much as possible especially at night. Just felt a little safer.
Show I’d highly recommend is ‘O’ at the Bellagio! I’d go back just to see that again!
Also recommend the all you can eat buffet at the Aria.
