Luggage advice please!

Our suitcases simply won't survive another trip so reluctantly we need to replace them. They are mainly used for family holidays, short & long haul; I would appreciate some advice please.
Should we go for hard or soft bodied?
Has anyone used American tourister bon air? (They were recommended in GH, apparently, though they are quite ££)
Or Tripp cases? They're in Debenhams sale today so are quite attractive!

Hi. The amazon basics ones seem to get a good review.

Love my tripp cases. We've got soft bodied ones. They've got a 5 or 10 year guarantee too. Well worth the money especially if they're in the sale.

Ive got Eastpak ones in sale from JL and they have a 30yr guarantee.

Second positive opinion for the Tripp cases. I've had mine for 10 years and been away every year with them. One finally gave up the ghost this time, but the other still going strong.

Samsonite hard cases. We’ve had ours for 17 years and in that time we’ve used them on multiple holidays and they’re still going strong. Ive also lent them to family members so the suitcases have been on more trips than I have. Cost per use has been fabulous value.

Only issue we had was a broken combination lock but one phone call later and a new one was posted to us free of charge.

We've got Tripp luggage , large cases, bags and cabin cases. 14 years old and still in good condition

Right, time to take a look at Eastpak & Samsonite and compare to Tripp.
Any info on American Tourist would be welcome!

We had Tripp soft bodied Pillo suitcases for years, they were hammered as we travelled a lot and they were fantastic. They were a kind of tough wipe clean nylon, not that we ever had to wipe them as they never marked until we flew home with Thai Airways in December. They came off the flight totally ruined, covered in a thick black oily rust substance. We had to bin them and they don't make them anymore. We've replaced them with Eastpak cases. They will be getting tested next week when we go on holiday.

Whatever you pick makes sure it has four wheels so it stands up by itself if you let it go

We have recently bought two American Tourister hard suitcases from Sports Direct for the bargain price of £25 each (labels say original RTP £99)

The suitcases are fab but it took forever for Sports Direct to provide them, really crap service. But the cases are good!

You could have a look at IT luggage from matalan - relatively cheap, but not bad quality, & very lightweight.

We've had an old set of the soft-sided 2-wheel kind for ages & have just upgraded to - er - newer 2-wheel soft-sided! I do like the 4-wheel twirly ones for whizzing through terminals, but the wheels on the 2-wheel kind (which have 2 feet on the other side, so stand up easily) are larger, sturdier & recessed, & have never suffered any damage in transit. (I do not trust baggage handlers )
