I should have posted this before now! We are flying to majorca for first time on weds and staying in alcudia, have hired a car, hubby has driven abroad once in menorca about 10 yrs ago, but he's quite confident(!). Any tips greatly appreciated!

They drive on the opposite side of the road to us

We were near Alcudia last year; no problems at all with driving - dh has driven abroad only 2-3 times before. Some of the roads can be very narrow and steep btw.

Enjoy your holiday!

Yes, as mercy said, the side roads are very narrow and lots have deep gutters right next to them and no street lights but the good thing is there isn't a great deal of traffic about so you can always take it real steady.

thanks, keep them coming, i anticipate the worst bit getting out of the airport and into the 'motorway' or whatever it's called

Its a very straight run from the airport to alcudia. you will be fine

It will be busy coming out of the airport and for the first couple of junctions of the motorway. We had to have our wits about us, getting off at the right exit initially, but once you are out of the hustle of Palma, the signs are very good to Alcudia and you will be fine.

lucky you!we have bn loads and driving and navigating in majorca is really easy.everything is well signposted, its hard to get lost{if you do the locals are very helpful!).although the roads are busier than on menorca the newly improved motorway that runs across the island makes getting around much quicker.1 word of warning, if hubby nt 2 confident you might want to avoid the mountain road from pollensa to soller, its high up in the mountains and very bendy-defo an adenaline rush when hanging on the edge of road with big tour bus coming towards u on your side of road!have a fab time

If you're slightly nervous about steep windy mountainous roads steer clear of the TF436 through Masca in the north west of the island. Some of the most stunning scenery I've ever seen but my god it's scary if you're going north to south! If you're going to try it, I'd recommend from south to north so you're away from the steep drop, but it is truly beautiful. Garachico at the end is also a nice place to visit, if I remember correctly.
