Me, DH, DS1 (5) and DS2 (2). We'd like beaches AND a city to explore, and temps in the early 20s - is this moon on a stick territory? All suggestions welcome.

Malaga is lovely and would meet your requirements.

Littletreefrog · 03/06/2018 21:12

Turkey

QuitMoaning · 03/06/2018 21:13

Rome?
Or even further South in Italy?

LapdanceShoeshine · 03/06/2018 21:18

Which part of October? Do you mean half-term? If so Andalusia would be a good bet - we had a brilliant holiday there one year, staying on the coast W of Malaga where the kids were happy to swim in the sea, but with side trips to different places like Granada, and - bonus! - we caught the first snowfall on the Sierra Nevada & went up there too for snowball fights 😊

Have a look at Nerja - it’s a nice place to stay, with some lovely beaches, & a reasonable distance from several good places to visit.

Barcelona?
Palma, Majorca?
Valencia?

ShackUp · 04/06/2018 18:21

Thank you everyone, I've booked flights to Malaga and an apartment in Benalmadena - all for £700 for the four of us for a whole week! I used my Nectar points to get a £200 voucher so I'm feeling very pleased with myself Grin I hope we get some sunshine...

LapdanceShoeshine · 04/06/2018 21:12

Excellent Smile

You should get some sunshine all days, & lots of sunshine most days.

Go to the zoo at Fuengirola, it’s fab!

Have you rented a car yet? We use malagacar & have always been happy with them

LapdanceShoeshine · 04/06/2018 21:18

Also you’re well-placed for trips to Gibraltar, Ronda & Antequera as well as Granada (unless you’d rather just chill on the beach Smile)

Ohyesiam · 04/06/2018 21:25

Chanda in Crete( the most southerly bit of Europe) it’s the prettiest city I’ve been to. I stay outside it’s essy to bus or drive in great beaches to east and west. Amazing mountains to drive into. Actually the whole island is great to explore.

ShackUp · 04/06/2018 21:33

Great tips lapdance thank you! We are quite keen to get out and about so we're thinking Ronda/Córdoba. DB used to live in San Pedro and we visited Marbella back then: never again!

ohyes Crete is on my list for another trip, I've been looking at Airbnb places there, looks gorgeous.

ShackUp We stayed in Elounda last year & can’t recommend it highly enough - its only drawback is that it’s much too far E for a trip to Chania so we had to miss that altogether. Crete is great though 😊

LapdanceShoeshine · 04/06/2018 21:52

Córdoba is wonderful ❤️

On our last holiday we had a 2-day side trip there, in a small hotel just outside the walls of the Mezquita. (We always stay in Orgiva, & it takes bloody ages to get anywhere from there Grin)

It’ll be a fairly easy sub-2 hour trip for you, & the roads are excellent.

I’m very jealous Smile

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/06/2018 04:26

A great choice.

Don't forget Malaga city itself. There's a Picasso museum, although we couldn't find it when we visited, tapas, a castle or two and lovely squares and parks with parrots in them.

Also the cable car ride in Benalmadena. Mijas white village is nearby and there are a couple of waterparks in the area too.

loopsngeorge · 05/06/2018 07:46

Wow you got a great price there! All the apartments and flights seem really expensive this year.
We've been to Benalmadena the past three october half terms and had great weather for the majority of it. Rabbit park aka Paloma Park is always top of the list to visit for my kids!

ShackUp · 05/06/2018 09:41

Paloma Park looks ideal! Our hotel is right next door to it.

Something to look out for in Malaga - statue of Hans Christian Andersen, with the Ugly Duckling in his bag Smile

Take your kids to The Tivoli. It's a funfair which opens in the evening and when our DS was about the same age as your DC he loved it and we had to go every time we visited Southern Spain. We were very surprised when we visited Malaga whilst waiting to catch our plane home one year. It was beautiful and we were actually there during a festival which was lovely. We also visited the Picasso Museum but our then 16 year old DS wasn't impressed about being dragged around that 😀
