I've just booked a cottage for next week. I have a nine year old girl and 6 year old boy.

Other than fossils which were looking forward to spotting, can you let me know any top tips please for the area.

We will have a car and don't mind doing a wee bit of driving. I'm quite keen to try Hugh FWs place for lunch in Axminster for example.

Anything else?
Thank you x

The beach there is the best bit. There's a shingle beach but walk round to the harbour and there is the cutest sandy beach which is great for shallow swimming if it's warm. At the harbour you can catch crabs and go fishing. We didn't really move from the beach area to be honest.
HFW's restaurant In Axminster was nice but not as quaint as I thought it was going to be.
Have fun and I'm sure someone will recommend day out places.

Pecorama is brilliant. www.pecorama.co.uk The mini steam railway is about a 17 minute ride. There's an expansive interactive model railway exhibition, outdoor play area with zipwire and an indoor soft play centre for children up to the age of 12. There are also some stunning gardens which are great for sitting in and enjoying the fabulous view.

We also like Axe Valley Wildlife Park. There's loads to do including hand feeding the free-range birds, handling a snake or a tarantula or meeting the armadillo, zebra, lemur or flamingos to name just a few! There are various play areas all over the park

Season Jurassic is a very interactive museum/adventure which is perfect for your kids' age group. There's a bit of everything here.

Nearby, Seaton Tramway is a good day out. They operate narrow gauge heritage trams alongside the river Axe estuary through 3 miles of countryside and 2 nature reserves. The tram journey takes about half an hour, and they operate open toppers, or enclosed saloons, depending on weather conditions. Look out for seasonal events throughout the year, including The Dinosaur Train, from the creator of the Muppets!

Lyme Regis Aquarium is a small family run aquarium which is very interactive. One of the most popular activities is hand feeding the very tame mullet. Kids lower their clenched hand containing food into the giant tanks and the fish gently suck and prod at their fingers and thumbs. You can also hold a live starfish, touch a crab and a giant lobster.

Beer Quarry Caves

Lyme Rib Rides - high speed inflatable rubber boat rides along the coast, suitable for children 5+ This was a highlight for my adrenaline-fuelled DS!

Jurassic Trails Cycle Hire has maps for 3 great family-friendly cycle routes. They're flat and easy to follow.

I'd be straight down to the South Devon Chilli Farm.
