Has anyone got Married in Greece??

If so, where? Would you recommend it?

We are looking to have a small wedding and get married on a beach in Greece, we know nothing about how we go about this, looking for a really lovely sandy beach in Greece and a hotel to stay in.

The idea is to go for a 2 week holiday and get married in the first week. Small family wedding.

Any advice would be great or any ideas, lovely places, good websites?

Thank you.

Not Greece but Italy- the Amalfi Coast. Used la calla they were wonderful and it was v easy/ affordable. We had our reception on a terrace in a castle overlooking the beach. It was the best decision to marry abroad.

I have read it’s similarly easy in Greece but don’t have any recommendations. I would go for it!

I got married in Lindos, Rhodes in 2009. Married outside the church at St Paul's beach (very close to the beach but not on it) ..... I think Lindos is very busy now. I have friends that got married in a hotel in Cyprus that loved it - maybe look at hotels on the beach and see where you go from there

No, but what a fabulous idea. Hope you get some good suggestions

I got married in Cyprus last summer and loved it. Was so relaxed and romantic. Just close family and friends.
We had to be there 5 working days before we could get married, not sure what it will be for Greece. Good luck x

Yes in Athens, by the coast. There are two areas, Glyfada and Vouliagmeni that have love churches and super romantic luxury 'resorts' to have your reception. It's very easy for guests about 40 mins from airport, then you can go on holiday to santorini or anywhere they like and they can go back home
Some venues have a chapel as well, my mate had her wedding there and stayed same place for reception. If you want specific details let me know x

The Princess Hotel in Skiathos have beachfront weddings. It’s a lovely hotel with a relaxed vibe & good service.

Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions, will check them out, I've also been looking at Cyprus too.

So many lovely places it's hard to make a decision.

Thanks Edina I have been looking at skiathos so will check out that hotel.

I've been looking at the Aquila Rithymna Beach hotel which looks lovely too, then I read a few not so great reviews, although there are a lot of great reviews too.

We have been to Greece but only to Kos it was lovely but I think there are better islands in Greece.

I’ve been to Aquila Rithymna beach, not to get married, just for a holiday and it was looooovely, I would seriously consider it for a wedding venue!
Also think about Aquila Elounda Village, it’s maybe more lovely as it’s more secluded and quiet.

FuckingHateRain · 01/06/2018 23:03

If you definitely want island there is nothing that beats Santorini. I'm Greek been to most islands, nothing like santorini guests will love it .Google pictures xxx

MorningCuppa · 02/06/2018 01:22

Stephenstrange that's good to hear, it does look lovely, I will look up Aquila Elounda Village as well so thank you.

I have been looking at Santorini and Mykonos, Santorini does look amazing, I need to look more into it.

Yes we got married in Kefalonia.
It was so nice.
It was in the resort of Skala. We were married in their town hall which was stereotypical Greek with marble, the flowers etc.
After the ceremony we walked through the main town into the beach only about 5 mins walk & everyone in the restaurants & bars stood up & clapped us as we walked past. It was surreal & breathtaking!!
They couldn't do enough for us.
The restaurant we chose to have our small reception at afterwards really trimmed up & gave us free champagne etc.

The whole experience was fantastic. I don't regret it.
We got married around half way through the 2 weeks.

I have been on holiday in Santorini too & it is lovely.
The beaches are black sand though so bear that in mind.

We got married in Kos 2 years ago.

We had young children and another couple who came had young children so we went for the First Choice Holiday Village. We had stayed there before and had a lovely time, obviously not super luxurious but still very nice and very family orientated.

We got married on the beach and EVERYTHING was taken care of for us. It was completely stress free and very good value.

MorningCuppa · 03/06/2018 20:47

Thank you everyone for suggestions.
Thanks for the link Justawee looks lovely.

Ems we have been to the holiday village in Kos, we had a great holiday there few years ago. Our kids are older now and have grown out of holiday villages.

I am struggling, everywhere I look seems to be for a biggish wedding, with wedding packages etc,we won't be having many people at all, been together far to long & cant be bothered to be worrying about who's coming who's not, who likes each other who doesn't etc etc.

So we just want to go on holiday for 2 weeks, get married on the beach and go for something to eat afterwards.
Probably max 10 people including us!

You can get married on Camelo island off Zante. You can hire it fir the day to get it all to yourselves. Not been there but it looks fab. Connected to Xante by a wooden walkway. Shoestrings in Alykanas is a taverna on its own on the beach in the old part of Alykanas and again looks lovely - there's a wedding organiser in Alykanas everyone raves about - Lisa Tear at Bright and Beautiful in Alykanas.
Corfu town is beautiful and some amazing places there. Lots of beautiful places on Crete too - in fact, anywhere in Greece!
Is there somewhere that is particular special to you? I bet the Greeks would make it work for you wherever you choose!

I agree about Santorini, it's a stunning island. We saw a lot of brides having photo's taken in quite a few locations.
