Hi can anyone recommend some days out in Cornwall? We are staying just outside of Bodmin so about 20 mins from Newquay and 20 mins from st Austell. Happy to travel for a couple of days out please can you recommend? We have a 8,6 and 4 year old!

The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Helegan are probably the best family days out near where you are.
Newquay Zoo is pretty good. Some families have commented that it is smaller than they expected, but there are still over 130 creatures at the zoo including a tropical house full of creepy crawlies, red pandas, lemurs, penguins and big cats. There is also a children’s activity trail, a play area and a dragon’s maze. Regular animal feeding and feeder talks take place throughout the day.
Kidzworld in St Austell is great. There's a high ropes course for over 5s, indoor climbing wall, large soft play area, outdoor sand and water play, trampolines, mini golf, Dodgem cars, and a roller skating arena.
Lappa Valley is a really good half-day out. There are three motorised trains to ride around on as well as a steam train, nature trails, a toddler maze and huge play parks for all ages. The Bodmin and Wentford Railway is another popular steam railway where you can take a leisurely 13 mile train journey around the beautiful Cornish countryside.
Cardinham Woods hasfour waymarked trails and miles of other tracks and paths to explore. There is a lovely picnic area by the river and BBQs are available which are free to use. Woods cafe offers delicious home-made cakes, cream teas and light lunches. There is an exciting play area next to the cafe.
Trevarnon Bay at Padstow is good as huge rock pools are revealed at low tide – plus you can combine it with a visit to the Lobster Hatchery and fish and chips at Rick Stein’s restaurant.

My children have loved Camel Creek adventure park near Wadebridge. Lanhydrock house (NT) near Bodmin has more than you would expect for small children and hires out bikes for use on their family trails - see www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lanhydrock/lists/family-time-at-lanhydrock

It’s a bit of a drive but hidden valley near launceston is perfect for that age. We had the most fun there

The camel trail a cycle route that goes between Padstow - Wadebridge - Bodmin - Wenford bridge. You can hire bikes

Cardinham woods

Bodmin moor / roughtor etc

Camel Creek adventure park - although most locals don’t rate it anymore.

Flow rider at Retallack

Newquay zoo

Newquay aquarium - Plymouth is much better though.

Eden project

Flambards - a little further afield

Hollywell bay fun park

St Eval go karting

There’s also a chocolate factory with a cafe in St Eval (Kernow chocolate)

Trethorne

Thanks everyone for the recommendations we are here now and went to Springfield's farm park yesterday which was great fun - a farm, rowing boats, big adventure playground, pony rides, drop slide and so on! We are going to go to watergate bay one day as we have been before and I just going to reread through for an idea for tomorrow! Thank you all for the suggestions!

@JKCR2017 just read your post about the go karting and chocolate shop in Wadebridge! Would have been perfect as DS wants to go go karting but the chocolate shop and cafe are not open on Saturdays or Sundays! 😩 perhaps can pursuade DH to stop in on the way home on Monday!!

Also any recommendations of nice ice cream parlours/ old fashioned sweet shops? I have tried to google but all the ones seem to be in st ives and west Cornwall which is a bit too far for us!

The karting and chocolate factory is a wadebridge address but it’s actually about 10 miles away from Wadebridge! About 8 miles from Newquay along the coastal route. I didn’t realise the choc factory only opened week days!

There is quite a few ice cream parlours in Padstow if you’re heading that way. There is quite a lot in Padstow shop wise, fudge, rock etc. Not sure about sweet shops sorry. Can’t think of any locally!

Have a great time!

A bit late but we went to padstow! What an amazing place! A little harbour with trendy little shops and cafes and nice sweet shops and ice creams! The kids could go crabbing in the harbour and then we walked up the hill to the beach! They also do boat rides which we are going to look into for next year!! Xx
