Any recommendations for somewhere on the luxury end of the market (would be a short break- me, DH and DS 17 months)

I mean Ireland and Northern Ireland

Kellys Hotel in Rosslare is always a good one with small kiddies
The Dingle Skellig is another one that I have loved
The Ferrycarrig in Waterford was great but its years since I stayed there
I've heard that Druids Glen in Wicklow is great but haven't stayed there
I think they are all 4 star but nice

Dingle Skellig has a brilliant creche and baby room and staff really welcome children. The hotel has a spa and is in a fantastic location, but it might not be the luxury that you're after.
Amber Springs is considered in the luxury end of the market. It has an indoor jungle gym with ball pit and staff are accommodating, but no childminding or babysitting facilities. It's also geared at slightly older children really.
Kelly's is probably the best. There's a kids club for older children but younger children are able to use the facilities at any time with their parents' supervision. Complimentary childminding is available in the children's room for two hours in the evening which allows you to dine in peace, or a reasonably priced babysitting service is available for your room. There's a special children's dinner served each evening at 5.30. There's also a nice outdoor play area. The hotel has a spa and a beautiful beach location.

Kelly's in rosslare is definitely recommended - I recently had a stay here myself . As is Amber Spring in Gorey. I have a friend who takes her two children here and they love it. She also stayed at Druid's Glen in Co Wicklow and recommended it. I also recommend The Twelve in Barna, just outside Galway. It's not so much that the hotel is specifically child friendly but it works really well for us with our now 3.5 yr old. He's always needed his own space to sleep and you can get an upgrade to a two room family suite for not much more than the regular room. This has a pull out double and kitchen area separate which I find really useful with a young child. Also, lovely area and close to the beach and the city
