Just that

My ex is very kindly giving me a bit of extra money to sort out some snags in the house.

Sod the snags... i am not in the mood to be sensible. I want to whisk the children and I away somewhere warm next Feb half term, as this winter has been dire.

Narrowed it down to Dominican Republic and Mexico.

All inclusive. I don’t want to do any food prep! We are not foodies. Happy with buffet. Don’t need fancy rooms BUT do need fab pools (preferably with some slides), no more than 10 hours flight time and a short transfer.

I want to book today as otherwise my sensible hat will kick in.

Huge thanks

PS ex won’t have a problem at all with me using the money how I wish!

Good for you!!!

We've just come back from 4th visit to Mexico and would def recommend it. We have stayed twice at the Grand Palladium Colonial & Kantenah and twice at the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal, both in Riviera Maya.

How old are your kids? Both of these have kids pools with slides. Bear in mind the 5/6 hour time difference (depending when you go) which is a killer for first couple of days so I wouldn't go for just a week. We went over Easter or 2 weeks this year and it was perfect!

Thank you

8 and 5

Only planning on a week. How long is the flight and transfer?

Love the Bahia principe one in particular!

At their age why not go somewhere closer and use some of the money for its intended purpose?

Don Rep or Mexico all inclusive won’t be much different from Spain or Greece all inclusive for an 8 and 5 y/o but I’m guessing would save you quite a bit of money. If you were going out and about to explore local culture then I guess going somewhere like Mexico might be more interesting but at their ages they won’t care and as a single mum myself I’d just want an easy life.

I took my 3 to Morocco a couple of years ago. It was lovely, but we really could have been anywhere. Did a couple of day trips to markets, local area etc but the dcs just wanted to get back to the pool.

The flight can be anywhere between 9 and 11 hours - depending on wind! We've done it back in 8 3/4 hours and also 10 and a half! I would say it is def too far for a week which would maybe rule out feb half term. How about Easter?

Transfer is about an hour if you do a private one and about an hour and a half if you do the coach.

There's a couple of really good trips that you could do.

We go to Florida for a week, my kids are fine. Travel is about the same.

Sorry delay!

Yesterday I spent best part of 6 hours searching and got myself twisted like a pretzel about it all!

After much consideration, I’m going to take us back to the Dominican Republic. I think Mexico offers more unquestionably BUT the weather in DR is much more certain to be around 30 and endlessly sunny whereas February Mexico is more a risk.
Plus it’s more expensive and when I’m really only looking for sun warmth and pool/beach fun for the children, it’s doeent make sense to splurge on hotels where people wax lyrical about the food / drinks / entertainment.

I need a pool, a gym and lots of fruit and veg - which even a big standard 4 star Caribbean hotel is good st providing

My children need a pool, preferably a beach, and ice cream. Again, even a big standard 4 star can do this.

So I’ve decided on memories splash, because has a selection of fab looking water slides and I think my two will be in heaven.

Thank you for all your help.

Your children won’t remember a thing!

I wouldn’t do Memories Splash OP, I’d do Grand Bahia Principe Fantasia it’s fab. Memories brill for kids but not so much for you Smile
