European City Breaks

Can anyone recommend a good place to go for a European city break with enough to do for a 3/4 night stay. I like the thought of somewhere with water, ie on a river, but not essential and we don't mind somewhere less obvious either.

Servile is lovely, plenty to do for a few days, Palace, cathedral, parks,, lots of little lanes to explore and good bars and restaurants

sillyswimmer · 12/05/2018 07:34

Berlin is a fantastic city with lots to do. We went for 3 nights and only managed to cover a fraction of everything there

SoSobored · 12/05/2018 07:36

I vote for Berlin too. It is so interesting.

whiteroseredrose · 12/05/2018 07:42

Rome is magical as is Barcelona. Too much to 'do' in one visit but alternatively a joy to just wander around without doing any of the touristy things.

You've just described Amsterdam Smile

I'm slightly biased as I'm an Amsterdam blogger but it's a wonderful city!

If you're looking for inspiration check out the blog and let me know if I can help with anything www.amsterdamwonderland.com

Stockholm

MouseLove · 12/05/2018 08:24

We've done many many city breaks.

You've just described Amsterdam. It's a lovely city and there's lots of history and things to see and do. We loved our trip. And we did NOT go for the obvious. Not our thing at all. I was so surprised that it was the opposite of what I thought it would be. There's a hotel called city hub which is fab!!

Venice is beautiful too but a little more expensive. Berlin is wonderful, but lots of rich and emotional history. We are off to Brussels next month for the second time, great for chocolate lol.

We've also visited Barcelona (very touristy but has a beach), Madrid (lovely and chilled but no water), Rome (lovely but touristy), paris (didn't enjoy)

You can pretty much choose anywhere you like!

Budapest is particularly spectacular. Prague is also good. Even Bratislava, although it might be a bit small for 4 nights.

Helsinki is also good. Lyon. Bruges. Valencia.

And as others have suggested, Amsterdam is obvious, Stockholm is beautiful, Barcelona is always fun.

And don't forget Paris!

Uninspirednamewise · 13/05/2018 15:25

We really liked Tallinn. Plenty of water as it's right by the sea! You could include a day trip to Helsinki too.

Ohcomeonn · 13/05/2018 15:30

Berlin has plenty to do. Boat rides plus there's a 'scene' with beach bars on the river.

I love Madrid, again lots to do and the food was fab. There are nice city parks to mooch about.

That1950sMum · 13/05/2018 15:32

Budapest ir beautiful. I'd also recommend Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Krakow and Belfast.

Dubdoor · 13/05/2018 15:39

Budapest is amazing. I love Berlin. I really want to go back to Amsterdam and spend more time there.

So many amazing European cities!

Munich

Copenhagen

Crispbutty · 13/05/2018 19:00

Rome.

The churches, the historic buildings, the markets, the little outdoor restaurants, the posh shops, and the riverbank. It really is a fabulous city.

MrsPotatoHeadIsMyIdol · 13/05/2018 19:01

Prague!!

Riga is also beautiful

starzig · 13/05/2018 19:05

Ljubljana or Bratislava might be good as they are small and you don't have much time. Budapest and Berlin would benefit from longer.

Costacoffeeplease · 13/05/2018 19:08

Lisbon
Venice
Nice
Porto

JonSnowsCloak · 13/05/2018 20:24

Porto was amazing. Also just returned from 4 nights in Dubrovnik- absolutely beautiful city although a bit more expensive than Porto. Paris is amazing and plenty to do there, also have a look at Florence and Venice :)

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 13/05/2018 20:33

Another vote for Budapest! Beautiful city and great food.

Seville also would fit the bill. Seville has some seriously good restaurants and the amazing Alcazar and surrounding gardens which are stunning.

irregularegular · 13/05/2018 20:35

Loved Ljubljana. It's quite small and low key, but for us that made it all the better. Certainly enough to keep you happy for a few days.

If you want a city with water, then either Venice or Amsterdam.

We’re just back from Amsterdam, and I really liked it. Very pretty, with lovely parks, canal cruises, great little bars and cafes on the water. Lots to do. We enjoyed hiring bikes and riding along the sides of the canals.

I’ve also been to Venice, and I loved that too, but for a quick break, Amsterdam is quicker and easier to get to.
