Need cheap holiday ideas!

So today DH and I came to the realisation that we can't quite afford the holiday we had planned this year (too late/close to school holidays to start saving now)

So can anyone suggest an alternative for us? DH, DC5, DC

What's your idea of 'cheap'?

What did you want to do? What's your budget? Brittany ferries holidays are v affordable, especially if you look at mobile home on a campsite, French campsites are often amazing

I'm thinking a short break probably in the UK now, so let's say £800?

Holiday cottage or Forest Holidays sort of cabin somewhere? Depending on where you are and how far you want to go.

Our favourites are either Dartmouth in Devon, great place to base yourselves for beautiful day trips, or the Lake District. 2 very different holidays though depending on time of year you're going and what you're into (beach/walking etc).
