Longhaul Flights

Looking to fly to Thailand with DD who will six. If anyone has flown longhaul with a child is it best to fly morning, afternoon or evening? I'm thinking if we do an afternoon flight and change in Doha the second half of the flight would be DD bedtime and she could sleep for about six hours. Any advise would be appreciated thanks

We did an evening flight and flew overnight and they didn't get much sleep as too excited. It was still fine but probably not the optimum time. It depends on the child to - is she likely to sleep or be excited?

I prefer night time flights with change at Dubai or Doha. However, I am good at sleeping on different types of transport

She’ll be excited so I wouldn’t plan anything where you’d expect her to go to sleep as soon as she gets onto the plane. Your plan of a change in Doha and sleeping on the second flight sounds reasonable. Personally I’d prefer direct if possible. There’s a BA flight to Bangkok around 4pm which would be a good time. A few hours into the flight and the novelty will hopefully have worn off, she would have eaten and watched a few films and it will be her usual bedtime anyway so you should hopefully get her to sleep without too much of a fuss. Kids adapt easily though (I’ve done a few long flights with nieces and nephews of that age), in my experience often better than the adults so just write off the first day and you’ll all be fine Grin

Personally I would choose Thai Airways over BA, they have daytime and evening flights. We did the evening flight a few months ago. Nice new plane.
