As the title says really -, how do you tell if they are a time waster or a bit dodgy ?

Common sense really.

What ever you do, DO NOT let them take it for a test drive on their own. Either one of you go too, borrow a male friend to go with them or get them to leave their car keys as deposit.

When we sold a car recently we had loads of timewasters who would arrange to come and see the car and not turn up despite sounding really keen on the phone. Others would say they would come back for second look with a mechanic friend and not appear etc.

So basically don't "hold on" to the car for anyone, no matter how keen/desperate they are to have the car unless they give you a hefty deposit.

Do not accept a bankers draft - these are often sold on pubs for £50.

Ok, dont let them take it for a test drive alone.
If they give you cash for the car, drive to the bank with them and get them to stand with you whilst paying in (I did this the bloke thought I was bonkers)
Lots of tips like this on the auto-trader website.

Selling my car drove me nuts, it was clearly advertised for what it was and theyd turn up and say 'oh it hasnt got electric windows' er no it says in the advert

Good luck
