I have to arrange a trip for July 2019 and this has been quoted to me from the travel angency. Flights aren’t yet available if I look online.

Dubai - 4 hours (£80 more)
Istanbul - 3.5 hours (£40 more,
2hr drive to airport)
Amsterdam - 4 hours (£100 more, 2hr drive to airport)
Doha - 2 hours (£30 more)
Turkey 3 hours (cheapest 90 min drive to airport)

A group of 18 women, beginning in the uk and travelling to rural kenya, so also a change at Nairobi.

Which airline is the cheapest one? Personally, I'd go Qatar over Turkish normally.

TheIsland · 30/04/2018 17:42

It’s Egypt air for the first leg and Turkish airlines for the rest.

We usually do Dubai, and there usually isn’t this much choice, but pretty flexible with dates.

Qatar airways will be the best . Hamad airport is new and makes a nice stopover.

TheIsland · 30/04/2018 19:07

Ace, thanks.

Definitely Qatar out of that lot. No reason to pay more and have a longer stopover for Emirates over Qatar.

Etino · 01/05/2018 15:13

The departure timing is as important as he cost and stopover.

TheIsland · 01/05/2018 15:34

Those all offer departure times we can manage. We’re tied to when we can arrive so have to be flexible with departures.

Where are you ravelling from? Why do you not just fly direct? It’s 8 hours but way less hassle! I have never gone via another country to get to Kenya. It’s a pointless waste of time.

motorpink · 01/05/2018 19:13

Surely it would be more sensible to fly to Nairobi directly from the uk?

RainbowCookie · 01/05/2018 19:15

Yep why not just fly Kenya airlines to Nairobi?

TheIsland · 01/05/2018 21:46

Cost - upwards from £300 more, which is a lot for some people.

We are also tied to when we can arrive because of connections within the country, and the travelling time within the UK to London.

Don't KLM code share with Kenya Airlines? I'm surprised you can't get a quicker flight that way, with a change in Amsterdam, probably with a choice of regional airport departures?

Might be worth looking out for BA worldwide flight sales and/or compare current flight prices for this July?

Doha/Dubai seems like a long way to get there.

TheIsland · 02/05/2018 14:11

Looking at this July, it seems a similar price going direct, and arriving into Nairobi at the right time, so I’ve emailed that to the travel agent to ask if we can do that.

I’ve just taken over organising it so just took their word for it on suggestions. We’ve always flown via Dubai before as it’s been significantly cheaper and simpler to go from the local airport so the travel agents may have just assumed we wanted to do that this time. Thanks.
