Hi! Had grand hopes of a flying visit (haha!) to an exotic land in Europe for a couple of nights. Doing research it sounds tiring with not much time to unwind before thinking about return trip. Any experiences?? Difficult to extend due to kids childcare. So options are Go or Go in UK more locally. Experiences.welcome!!

I recently went to Budapest Sat-Mon. I think it's great as long as you pick a place that's not too far (short flight). I also live quite close to an airport so I'm lucky.

I’ve done it many times. As long as you live fairly near an airport, and the place you’re going to isn’t far either I think you’re fine.

Of course it is, obviously you’re a bit limited for time, but you can definitely make the most of it.
Where are you thinking about going ?

Bratislava was good - lots to explore in the city over two days.

Copenhagen great weekend break-really fun city and lots to see and do, absolutely loved it and easy for a weekend-
also recently have done Vienna-very different vibe-more galleries and grand buildings type weekend but again really enjoyed it.

I think because your time is limited the thing to do is to plan ahead a bit-do your research and be organised with "must see" "nice to see" and "not bothered" people want different things from trips-some want to shop and drink, some to go to galleries and get culture- so just tailor the trip around what you want.
Now I want to go away well I am going to Nottingham next weekend

Of course it is -or at least it is if you live close up an airport and the destination airport is close to the city you're going to.
I've done most of my weekend breaks around Europe this way. Ideally leave on Friday morning or at least lunchtime but, even if you depart on a 7.30pm flight and allowing for the time difference you can be checked in and in your room by 11.30. Full day of sightseeing on Saturday & then you get most of Sunday too if you don't depart until, say, 6pm and then you re-gain the hour on the way back which helps.
If we're just doing a weekend like this in a new city, we don't stay in a particularly swish hotel as we just won't spend much time in it. Location is more important. We've also learned not to have a big night out on the Saturday as don't want to spend Sunday feeling hungover.

Not at all. Most of our trips are Friday to Sunday:
Berlin
Bruges
Budapest
Prague
Amsterdam

Totally easy and brilliant.
