Ok, July holiday to lovely hotel in Cuba cancelled as pool going to be shut. Me (late 50s) 2 adult kids (21 and 24) Booking 2 rooms. One needs to have 2 beds in it. Any recommendations please? I normally book in January after much reading of reviews , so this feels a bit rushed. Looking at Dominican republic, Maldives. I'm happy to sit next to a pool with a cocktail but they would like a bit of entertainment/things to do.

There’s not a lot to do in DR or Maldives. Maldives is more about diving. I would suggest Antigua or Barbados might be a bit more varied. Personally I would do beach in Kenya and add on a safari. Or the other way around. Far more fun then just flopping. Beaches and pools are all the same in the end.

Maldives has its rainy season in July
Caribbean isn't brilliant for weather then either.

Personally I wouldn't bother going long haul in July when you can get fabulous weather in Europe without the long flight and jetlag

If you really want longhaul I'd try Bali (good weather then) or Mexico

Costa Rica is lovely and full of things to do rainforest, sloths, monkeys, raccoons, coati etc, ziplines, beaches, watersports, hot springs etc We went to a nice hotel there via TUI in Guanacaste Rui Guanacaste but it was a bit lively for a quiet cocktail plus you may have a raccoon or coati joining you there 😂 but there are quieter ones.

Thank you very much, I'll have a look at those suggestions
I don't know why I'm fixed on long haul, I'm happy with a cocktail by a pool and there will be good weather in Europe. Will look at Kenya and Costa Rica though

Mexico. The resorts south of Cancun are lovely, we stayed at the Grand Palladium and would definitely go back.

That's worth a look, thanks

I second Antigua...beautiful beaches , very relaxed vibe
Or Thailand (Ko Samui will be Ok in July...avoid west coast Thailand as its rainy season there )

I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii but the journey time is so long. Current shortlist Mexico, Barbados, Crete or Dom rep. Crete’s in there because I can see the point that I don’t need to fly long haul for decent July weather
