Innsbruck or Salzburg for 4 nights?

We will be in Austria this July for a family occasion and we have a few days afterwards to travel.
I have been to both Innsbruck and Salzburg before when I was younger so my memories are not very fresh!
It will be DH, DC (under one) and I.
Which would you recommend?
Also open to alternative suggestions!

Not been to Inns - so cant say but adored Salzburg!

@SunwheretheFareyou Thanks, I agree Salzburg is beautiful! Innsbruck is supposed to be even more so though. There is a classical music festival in Salzburg when we go so lots of love music outdoors around the city. Difficult decision!

Are you you able to ti travel round a bit? Lots to do outside salzburg too

We could yes...were thinking of hiring a car maybe. This is the first time going abroad with DC so unsure how easy/difficult it will be! I've seen some beautiful alpine lodges around the Salzburg region which would be fairy tale like to stay in.

We stayed in Hintertux for a few days last year here and it was lovely - maybe more geared for slightly older children but has playground, tourist train which goes to petting farm, kids playrooms, lovely food.

You can walk to the cable car and all year there's snow at the top. There's an ice palace at the top too (maybe not suitable for under 1s) but you go under the mountain including on a short boat. Can ski there all year but more for advanced than beginners. Lovely cafe at top of mountain and beautiful mountain views. There's a lot of KinderHotels in Austria aimed at kids though maybe more for 3 plus than under 1. Think we flew to Innsbruck with Easyjet.

@penguinsandpanda Thanks so much for the link. They are all so beautiful! I was looking at farm stays and alpine lodges in the Salzburger region too. They are so reasonable price wise.
Hintertux sounds like a great place to visit with plenty to do. I will investigate further! Thanks again Smile

This is the hotel playground in Hintertux in May, was empty when were there, it was quite hot on the ground maybe 28C but if you go up the cable cars, a few hundred metres walk, there's snow, a cafe, skiing and the ice palace up the top. Snow there all year. There are different activities at different times of year, think in summer there's lots of white water rafting etc though that's maybe for 10 years time if yours is under one. They did an activity programme at the hotel for kids including the little train ride to some animals and a walk I think. They made special food for my son who is a fussy eater.

Been to both and I'd go for Innsbruck. So much to do, fab outdoor swimming pool in the centre, ski jump, lots of mountains, loved it so much!

Hi All, just to let you know that we have booked a suite (get us! Was very cheap! Grin) in a nice 4 star ski hotel. It's in a village just a 10 min bus ride in to Innsbruck. We were booking Salzburg and swayed at the last minute! We're really pleased and can't wait!
Thanks for all your advice Thanks

Hope you enjoy it! Is it Seefeld? If so, there's a great summer toboggan run near there. I'd love a trip to Innsbruck soon!
