Solo traveller to Singapore for 3.5 days on a stopover. What is there to do?

Love a free walking tour to get my bearings. Any recommendations?

Hi Oldowl

I don't know about walking tours I'm afraid but there is a lot you can do in 3.5 days! I can recommend the following:

Walk along the river - Start at Robertson Quay, through to Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and to the Merlion. You'll see a lot this way and spectacular views towards Marina Bay Sands when you get to the Merlion.

Gardens by The Bay. Pay extra to go into both of the Domes - especially the Cloud Forest.

Botanic Gardens and the National Orchid Garden (small fee to enter)

Go to Sentosa Island. Can do this via cable car from Mount Faber if you fancy.

If you like walking, google the Southern Ridges tree top walk.

Go to China Town and Haji Lane for a wonder

Visit a local Hawker centre for a bite to eat. I can suggest Lau pa Sat (and from 7pm Boon Tat Street opens up with lots of Satay Stalls for dinner) or Maxwell.

Night Safari - good fun for a solo traveler. Or the Zoo.

Have a great time! It's a wonderful City!

Thank you so much for lots of great suggestions.

The Gardens by the Bay sound great. Off to google it!

Walk up to Fort Canning. Various things to see on the way and at the top. Then head down to river for a drink / snack.

Oldowl, have you booked your flights already? If you are with Singapore Airlines look at the Singapore Stopover Holiday -- you get great hotel prices and a card that gets you free entry to lots of attractions.

If you can't do that, have a look at the things they offer anyway as it's a good intro.

there are river cruises which are good (just a little boat but it's a nice way to see the city) and I really rate the national museum. Little India is a great place to visit too. The MRT/Underground is really good and easy to navigate.

I liked the bus trip, you can get on and off (i think its called hop on hop off) it is open top, and I used it as a nice way to see the city when I had walked enough!

its been a while so the place will have been totally rearranged by now, but

  • merlion
  • botanic gardens
  • fort canning
  • changi museum
  • fountain of wealth
  • zoo by day ( see more than at night)

and stuff yourself at any and every food court.

forget orchard road as shopping is the same anywhere, and sentosa is a theme park with mucky water. dont bother if no kids.

oh yes - have a look in raffles, and as for the walking tour remember how hot and humid the place is!
