rucksacks-big enough or not?

I'm going to be doing a short haul flight soon with ds back to the UK. Can anyone advise me on the best form of luggage to use? I've always taken a trolley pull case before but is a nightmare juggling case, pushchair, sling etc etc. Was thinking about getting a rucksack but need something big! How much do rucksacks actually hold?? Whenever I go back to UK (I live abroad) I always stock up on clothes for ds and me so want to use my full allowance for baggage. Any advice? Thanks

What about one of those oblong type shaped kit bags that have a shoulder strap? Bigger than a backpack, easy to carry and they usually have a zipper section on each end to keep things handy in. My two dss's use these when they go on holiday for a week with us, most sports shops sell them.

You can get truly huge rucksacks, but they are heavy to carry on your back, holdalls can hold more perhaps but might be even more difficult than a trolley case. You can alos get holdalls with wheels so you can carry on shoulder or pull.

I would think about how far you might actualy have to carry the bags. I take it the problem is that you will be pushing the buggy and trying to pull a case. Is the child in the buggy too small to stans on a trolley with the cases and folded buggy until bags checked in?
