Student travel to Paris and Barcelona

My teen Dd and friend are spending a week in Paris and Barcelona in June. Any recommendations for free /cheap things to do for students and places to eat?

with only a week and the travel between they will be in a rush. first stop is the
library for rough guides.

have they bought their travel insurance?
