Thomas Cook hand baggage- I am really confused!

I am so confused over the hand baggage allowance from Thomas Cook. The website states hand baggage can be 6kg and an additional item of small handbag, wrist bag or shoulder bag with strap is allowed. But then underneath is states some airports charge for a gate bag, and it is unclear whether this means items over the above items or whether the gate bag IS the extra handbag etc.

Has anyone flown recently with them? Or can anyone just help me to decipher the website please

Please note: At some UK airports, a charge for a Gate Bag will now be applied. This means if customers arrive at the boarding gate with more then one item of hand baggage (excluding airport shopping and any of the above mentioned additional items) the extra item/s will be taken and put into the hold. There is a fee of £65 per bag

Reads to me that you can take 1 hand luggage bag plus hand bag or other item from the list on the website but if you then had an extra bag it would go in the hold with a charge.

Thanks Demented. I saw that bit too but if you scroll down further past the section about infants, there is another section which reads as though they charge extra for the additional item. It seems a bit contradictory Confused
