Long haul suggestions for May-June family on a budget

Thinking of going on a 2 week big family holiday at the end of May next year.

I’d like the dcs too see more of the world because they haven’t travelled much.

Mix of ages. 3 dcs.

One doesn’t like it too hot esp if humid.

One likes sports.

One likes animals.

DP would like culture/history.

I want a beach to build sandcastles with youngest!

On a budget so not expecting luxuary.

Any suggestions and when is the best time to book- a year in advance/ leave it to last minute?

Flexible about departure airport.

DP would prefer an airline with a very good safety record eg virgin/BA.

I think maybe exotic holidays aren’t really suited to us.

We are all very fair so can’t go anywhere too hot as we’d burn and none of us like it too hot.

Only DP likes spicy food.

I don’t want to inflict jags on the D.C. without a very good reason and don’t want them at risk of disease either.

We are very ethical consumers and DP doesn’t really agree with flying from an environmental perspective anyway hence most of our holidays being U.K. based. I wouldn’t support a totalitarian regime or businesses associated with them etc.

Have a look at potters resort in Norfolk we loved it there,so much to do

If you stick to a tour operator like TUI / First Choice you won't have to experience foreign food unless you want to.

I looked in their Splashworld range and they currently have one in Morocco with waterpark 13 May for 2 weeks for 5 people for a bit over £3,000 (exact price depends on kids ages) - Aqua Mirage Club - temp is 29C max then. Think its all inclusive and its a 2 bedroom family suite with interconnecting rooms. Never been but been to other Splashworlds which have been very good. Its a European airline. They have Splashworlds in plenty of destinations so if you don't like Morocco there are plenty of other countries.

Though there are seals in Norfolk.

I’m from Norfolk but to be honest if someone offered me £5k for a family holiday no way would it be spent on Cromer & a wet week on the Broads! You don’t like totalitarian regimes OP - but still go to the States a lot?! If you all don’t like heat then long haul isn’t probably for you. Maybe look at Switzerland, colder, hygienic, trouble free etc - steer clear of the cheeses though, just on the safe side!

Sevendown · 26/04/2018 15:45

I’d love to go to Switzerland but it’s too expensive!

I’ll check out resorts in Morocco.

if switzerland is too expensive but it appeals to you, have a look at the Jura in france. You can do day trips to switzerland as its basically next door and the Jura is not touristy at all compared to the alps
